Synopsis The totally unique soundtrack is the brainchild of Andrew Kidman and Tim Gaze. Kidman is a family friend of the Fitzgerald's, and used to work and surf for Hot Buttered. Tim Gaze, one of Australia's premier guitar players, was also involved with Hot Buttered soundtracks for their movies during the eighties.

Andrew was recording a new album with his band 'The Brown Birds from Windy Hill', and the sound engineer, Mick Wordley, who recorded 'Delightful Rain', came up to Andrew's house with a truckload of sound gear and converted the kitchen into a sound studio. After Andrew had finished his album and those musicians had left, a new bunch came in to record the 'Hot Buttered Soul' soundtrack. Tim Gaze bought down a couple of mates he has played with for years, Johnny Barns - Drums and Peter Willersdorf - Bass, plus Neal Purchase Junior who was already there.

The film was projected so the whole band could see it and they played to what they saw. Having musicians who knew the Fitzgerald family personally and the whole story helped to evoke tunes that others couldn't. The music used in the movie is one unedited take, from start to finish. This sort of recording was done with bands in the sixties/seventies for surf movies, but it hadn't been done in a while. There is a definite nod to the past there and the soundtrack is very real.
