Circle One is beautifully filmed. The feel of the movie is both modern and vintage--looking like it could have been some young guy's favorite flick in the 70's with today's energy and above the lip angst. A flawless balance.

Synopsis Circle One is beautifully filmed. The feel of the movie is both modern and vintage--looking like it could have been some young guy's favorite flick in the 70's with today's energy and above the lip angst. A flawless balance.

The film announces itself with a snarl. Todd Morcom and Nathan Fletcher bombing huge Pipeline with the rest of the Quik team hurling themselves over ledge after ledge. Peter Mel's Mavericks shots are mind-boggling. And when he goes left he seals the deal. Circle One is constantly gaining ground; there's no cheese in between segments, instead Josh Williams presents dramatic, calculated shots that are unimaginable and attainable at the same time.

Ben Bourgeois's Dominican footage is colorful and fast, continuing the film's theme of build up then explosion.

And just when you thought it was one of the most well rounded surf films in years, Metallica blares and Kelly Slater handles Superbank like a man possessed--the strongest Slater segment out there. Soon as he's done proving he's still in control of his chips, Strider Wasilewski gets emotional talking about one of the heaviest barrels ever caught on film. Again, no cheese--just pure roots.

Get ready to rewind the flick to the beginning as soon as the credits start rolling.
