||Follow the world's best surfers into the first event of the year at the Quiksilver Pro on Australia's beautiful Gold Coast. The first event of the year is always filled with expectations; for tour rookies it is an opportunity to prove themselves to the surfing world by competing and beating the elite. It is also an opportunity to get a good start to the year and build on the world title campaign... as long as you are focussed and can restrain from the distraction of nonstop parties that come with the contest being in town.
In Parallel after a year -long season of competition, our host Angie gets to experience the final contest of the surfing calendar at the infamous Pipeline Masters, an event held in Hawaii at the Banzai Pipeline. This final event is unquestionably the most critical contest, especially for any competitor who is siting on the cut off line for requalifying, which means that careers are on the line.
World titles have also been battled out at the Pipeline Masters for decades. In this episode we are there to witness history when Mick Fanning defeats good mate Joel Parkinson for the world title.
